Notes
Atlanta
1.5 Mile Superspeedway
Daytona
Talladega
Atlanta is a narrow superspeedway. It races a lot more like Daytona than it does Talladega.
Bristol
Short Track
Unique
Dover
Study Bristol as a unique track.
Charlotte
1.5 Mile Intermediate Track
Kansas, Las Vegas and Texas
Homestead and Michigan.
Charlotte is a D-shaped oval with low to moderate wear. Put emphasis on studying low to moderate wear 1.5-mile tracks.
Charlotte Roval
2.28-Mile Road Course
Unique
Sonoma, Watkins Glen, COTA and the Chicago Street Course
Focus on studying Charlotte Roval track history first, and then overall recent road course racing prowess.
Chicago Street Course
2.1 Mile Street Course
Unique
Sonoma, Charlotte Roval, COTA and Watkins Glen
To approach the Chicago Street Course, I would view it as a unique track but focus on overall road course racing prowess.
Circuit Of The Americas (COTA)
3.4 Mile Road Course
Sonoma and Watkins Glen
Charlotte Roval and Chicago Street Course
Make sure you study drivers overall road course racing prowess.
Darlington
High Tire Wear Skill Intermediate Track
Unique
Homestead and Dover
Study Darlington as a unique track
Daytona
Big Superspeedway
Atlanta and Talladega
None
Daytona and Talladega are the two big superspeedways but race differently. Daytona is much more narrow and Talladega is a lot wider.
Dover
Skill Intermediate Track
Unique
Darlington, Nashville and Bristol
Study Dover as a unique track. If you want to make a stretch, you can say it’s similar to Darlington and Bristol. Nashville is also a concrete intermediate track but it’s quite different.
Gateway / World Wide Technology Raceway
Shorter-Flat Track
New Hampshire, Richmond and Phoenix
None
Gateway was new for 2022. I view it as a “Big” shorter-flat track. It’s 1.25-miles and the other shorter-flat tracks are 1.0 miles or less.
Homestead
1.5 Mile High Tire Wear Intermediate Track
Darlington
Charlotte, Kansas, Texas and Las Vegas
Homestead is a high-tire wear 1.5-mile track. Some drivers know how to manage their tires, some don’t.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
2.5 Mile Big Flat Track
Pocono
Michigan (from a big horsepower perspective)
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a big flat track returning to the schedule in 2024. Big horsepower and track position are king. In 2024, Pocono is one week before Indy, so make sure you pay attention that weekend.
Iowa
.875 Mile Short Track
Richmond
New Hampshire, Phoenix and Gateway.
Iowa is new for 2024. I would approach it as you would a shorter-flat track.
Kansas
1.5 Mile Intermediate Track
Michigan and Las Vegas
Charlotte, Homestead and Texas
I view Las Vegas as the “Sister Track” for Kansas. Kansas is also sort of a mini-Michigan but tire wear is much higher now.
Los Angeles Coliseum
.25 Mile Short Track
Unique
Martinsville
The Coliseum is a unique short track that is half the size of Martinsville with even less banking.
Las Vegas
1.5 Mile Intermediate Track
Kansas
Michigan, Charlotte and Texas
Las Vegas is an intermediate track where historically tire-wear hasn’t proven to be a huge issue but its increasing. Track position is very important here.
Martinsville
Short Track
Unique
New Hampshire and North Wilkesboro
Study Martinsville as a unique track. It’s not comparable to any other track on the schedule. New Hampshire can be comparable, but only loosely.
Michigan
2.0 Mile Low Wear Intermediate Track
Kansas
Las Vegas, Charlotte, Homestead and Texas
To prepare for Michigan study Kansas. It can be viewed as a “Mini-Michigan.”
Nashville
1.33 Mile Concrete Intermediate
Unique
Dover and high-speed 1.5-mile tracks
Nashville is a unique track. It’s 1.33 miles and concrete. It’s almost a mix between Dover and high-speed 1.5-mile tracks. I’ll note though, it’s really neither and more of a hybrid.
New Hampshire
Shorter Flat Track
Richmond, Gateway and Phoenix
Iowa, North Wilkesboro and Martinsville
For fantasy preparation, make sure you study how drivers performed at Richmond, Gateway and Phoenix.
North Wilkesboro
.625 Mile Short Track
Unique
Phoenix, Richmond, Gateway and Martinsville
North Wilkesboro has a unique uphill backstretch and downhill front stretch. The banking is 14 degrees in the turns and 3 degrees in the straightaways. North Wilkesboro went from the oldest surface in the series, to the newest courtesy of repaving following the 2023 All-Star Race.
Phoenix
Shorter Flat Track
Richmond, Gateway and New Hampshire
None
Gateway, New Hampshire and Richmond are three shorter-flat tracks where the level of correlation should be high.
Pocono
Big Flat Track
Indianapolis
Michigan (from a big horsepower perspective)
Indy is back in 2024, but Pocono is week before. What happens at Pocono might have strong correlation to Indy though.
Richmond
Shorter Flat Track / Short Track
New Hampshire, Gateway, Phoenix and Iowa
Martinsville
Tire wear is higher at Richmond than it is at other shorter-flat tracks. Make sure you study how drivers ran at Phoenix, New Hampshire and Gateway.
Sonoma
Road Course
Watkins Glen and COTA
Charlotte Roval and the Chicago Street Course
Sonoma is a very technical road course. Don’t neglect studying overall road course racing prowess.
Talladega
Big Superspeedway
Daytona
Atlanta
Daytona and Talladega are both superspeedways but race differently. Daytona is much more narrow and Talladega is a lot wider.
Texas
1.5 Mile Low Wear Intermediate
Charlotte, Kansas and Las Vegas
Michigan and Homestead
Texas was newly repaved for 2017. Prior races should no longer be considered relevant.
Watkins Glen
Road Course
COTA and Sonoma
Charlotte Roval and the Chicago Street Course
I view Watkins Glen as largely a unique track. That said, study overall road course racing prowess.
